Legionella training

Legionella training is a broad term covering various aspects of legionella control and management. There are many courses run by lots of providers and most are general awareness types or aimed at responsible persons. Very few are accredited and even these are not particularly strong. One of our consultants spent years teaching the City & Guilds NVQ 2 types courses. His view is that anyone with some basic understanding could sit the 4 day course, pass the exam at the end and have no practical ability or skill to do the actual work. So beware of paper certificates making exaggerated claims. They should in our view come with a health warning e.g. ‘Production of certificates or accredited courses DOES NOT imply any level of competence. They merely satisfy a standard of knowledge gained in the classroom.’

Legionella training courses

We equally apply this to our own training courses. Our trainers are highly experienced, enthusiastic presenters who are good at teaching the course material and get super feedback. The key is to have great trainers with willing delegates that result in maximum learning. The delegates end the course having gained knowledge, understanding and have a platform of legionella control to build upon.

The courses can be tailored to suit the client’s needs and involve a mixture of class based teaching and practical exercises. Our view is that clients shouldn’t have to pay £230-250 per person for 1 or 2 days away from the office. We aim to achieve an appropriate level of legionella training in 1 day aiming at £150-100 per person. Courses are usually run at clients premises to minimise delegate travel time and costs. Other attendees can join from other sites to enhance the whole legionella training event for everyone
